The College of Education (COE) has three departments, with 64 faculty serving over 2000 undergraduate students from the College of Education, the College of Liberal Arts, and the College of Science. The COE currently offers online teacher certification programs, including our Alternative Teacher Certification Program to certify those whose degrees are in areas other than education, to over 275 individuals throughout Texas. Over 39% of UTEP’s 3600 graduate students, including approximately 100 doctoral students, are enrolled in the College of Education. These students are engaged in research relevant to the U.S.-Mexico border that examines the impact of culture and language on school achievement along with other topics of interest to the Paso del Norte region and beyond. The doctoral program in Educational Leadership and Policy Development will celebrate its 20th year of service to the region, the nation, and the borderland of the United States and Mexico in the 2015-16 academic year. Graduates of our program have gone on to secure significant leadership roles in pre-K and higher education institutions across the state of Texas and throughout the United States. This position dedicated to the development, implementation, and evaluation of policy analysis will add to the quality of a strong and creative research and development activity in a critical geographic region shared by two nations.
The Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations is an active member of the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA).


REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have a doctorate in Educational Policy, Educational Leadership, or a closely-related field from a nationally accredited institution and be able to demonstrate skills in policy analysis and evaluation in the PreK-20 trajectory. The ideal candidate must also show evidence of effective teaching, advising, and mentoring at the graduate level, possess a strong record of publications, have experience supervising doctoral students and demonstrate potential for externally funded projects.

Desired qualifications include strong knowledge of research methods and statistical analyses, evidence of a record of administrative experience in K-12 or in higher education, record of contributing to program development and coordination and an established history of externally- funded research.

SALARY: Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience.

The Project Associate will provide services in his/her special areas of expertise and experience. His/her responsibilities includes but will not be limited to:
  • Coordinate and collaborate effectively with the team members in a team-based
    approach to the organization’s learning and education policy work.
  • Serve as specialist on issues related to disproportionality in special education.
  • Disseminate timely, relevant information to schools, districts, and state education
    departments about quality instructional practices and related education reform
    issues. Respond to field questions on best practices.
  • Work with state agencies and other state and regional organizations to influence
    state policies on ensuring equity in race, national origin, and gender.
  • Attend and participate in a variety of school, district, state-level, and national
    meetings to represent the center’s positions.
  • Develop and implement training for schools, districts, and state education agencies.
  • Effectively participate in partnerships with external organizations (e.g. business, non-profits) in order to maximize the potential of achieving education reform goals for all students.
  • Assist in providing technical assistance (training and professional development) to schools and districts on various education topics.
    The Project Associate will be reporting to the assigned Project Director
    A Masters degree or higher in education. At least 4-5 years of experience working in schools. At least 1 year of experience providing technical assistance to schools and working with culturally linguistically diverse students. Substantive knowledge on NCLB, education reform, achievement gap research, English Language Learners, disproportionality in special education, race in schools, and gender equity. Teaching and coaching experience also desired. Strong written and oral communication skills. Computer skills in Excel and Powerpoint. Highly motivated, takes initiative. Willing to travel. Creative and independent thinker. Able to work under both pressure and time constraints. Able to make a 4-5-year commitment.

Call for Book Chapter Proposals from International Scholars 

Rowman & Littlefield Publishers has issued a contract for the 2016 publication of
International Perspectives on Women In Educational Leadership

International scholars and practitioners whose work reflects a broad range of perspectives on women in educational leadership are invited to submit chapter proposals. Elizabeth C. Reilly, Professor of Educational Leadership at Loyola Marymount University and Diane E. Reed, Associate Professor at St. John Fisher College, will co-edit the book.
The tentative themes of each section are as follows, but the editors and publisher are open to others:
  • Philosophical and Theoretical Perspectives on Women in Educational Leadership

ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR RESEARCH

The University of Texas at El Paso invites applications for a tenured Associate Professor or Professor to serve as Associate Dean for Research in the College of Education. The College is seeking an exceptional individual to provide visionary leadership to expand and enhance the quality, breadth, quantity, and impact of research activities in the College. Specifically, we seek someone who will facilitate development of new research directions, including collaborative and multidisciplinary extramurally-funded projects, as well as support ongoing research. The successful candidate will also oversee faculty research development and research collaborations with other entities. The Associate Dean for Research will report to the Dean of the College of Education and represent the Dean on University committees related to the College’s involvement in university-wide research initiatives.
Required qualifications:
  •   a Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent degree in educational leadership, higher education, teacher education, school or mental health counseling, or a related field along with a strong record of accomplishments for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in one of the College of Education departments.
  •   a record of scholarship sufficient to meet criteria for appointment as a tenured faculty member
  •   history of successful and sustained extramurally-funded research
  •   demonstrated ability to effectively work with administrators, faculty, and staff
  •   evidence of establishing and managing collaborative research programs
  •   outstanding communication skills
  •   demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity for under-
    represented groups
  •   Preferred qualifications:
    administrative experience, including budgets and finance pertaining to funded projects, in an academic institution or equivalent

  •   demonstrated aptitude for leading collaborative research projects and partnering with private and public sector entities
  •   experience working effectively with external funding agencies and foundations
  •   experience shaping policies and procedures that encourage and reward faculty for engaging in

3.      Our colleagues Judith Slater, Ruth Ravid, and Martin Reardon are pleased to issue a call for proposals for a new edited volume titled "Building and Maintaining Collaborative Communities: Schools, University, and Community Organizations" for Information Age Publishing. This new volume seeks to explore and make explicit the tacit understandings that underpin the interaction and leadership for educational change among the three vertices of the university-school-community triad.  The aim is to further understand how the collaborative endeavor can be advanced, and the conditions under which the goals and objectives of each of the collaborative partners can be reached. An enhanced understanding of the complexities of the resultant communities that lie at the heart of the collaborative context will sharpen the focus on serving the needs of children and families who deserve to have their educational prospects enhanced.
