The Department of Educational Administration at Michigan State University invites candidates for an Associate/Full Professor of K-12 Educational Administration and Leadership position to begin in August 16, 2015.

The Department is part of a top ranked college with research centers and initiatives addressing issues in educational leadership, school improvement, district and state level reform, urban education, educational policy, international education studies, measurement and assessment, and the scholarship of teaching. It houses a dynamic outreach center that links faculty with practitioners and policy makers across the state.

To be considered for this position, candidates must have an earned doctorate in educational administration, leadership or a related field and be prepared to assume the responsibilities listed in this call for applications. Applicants should provide information on the contributions they could make to priority areas of scholarship and research specialization noted below.

Areas of scholarship/research specialization:
We seek scholars committed to core issues in K-12 leadership and the improvement of school organizations and educational systems, particularly schools that have been historically underserved. Successful candidates will have advanced degrees in educational administration, leadership or related fields. The candidates must have demonstrated an active interest in the field through research and scholarship in one or more of the following areas: educational leadership, educational policy, sociology, urban studies, law, business management or public administration. Desirable areas of specialization include: the influence of leadership on school organizations; implementation of federal and state policies; school finance; evaluating educators and schools; charter schools; the achievement of underperforming and under-resourced schools; non-governmental education sectors; state education systems and networks including transitions between K-12 and higher education. Candidates with experience bridging policy and practice are highly desirable. The application of quantitative methods to these areas is also highly desirable.

Areas of professional commitment:
Candidates are expected to have clear research and scholarship interests and to secure external funding. Candidates with experience working with initiatives, projects and centers that focus on improving the preparation of leaders in traditionally underserved schools and systems and school improvement are highly desirable. We seek individuals disposed to collaborate in delivering innovative master’s and doctoral programs and to engage with communities serving high need schools in Michigan.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited university in the area of Education or a related field with demonstrated expertise and experience in educational leadership and innovation
  • Demonstrated scholarly productivity
  • Demonstrated leadership in program development
  • Demonstrated successful teaching at the graduate, including online classes

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Educational Leadership (DEL) is one of five academic departments within the College of Education and Allied Studies (CEAS). The Department’s mission is to prepare and influence bold, socially responsible leaders who will transform the world of schooling. Our central role is to ignite the leadership capacity needed to create vital, democratic and caring places for powerful teaching and learning. Faculty members apply a social justice lens as they work collaboratively to deliver rigorous and relevant instruction. The department provides a California Teaching Commission (CTC) approved program for those students seeking a Tier I or Tier II Administrative Credential.  The department’s outreach is organized in a one-of-a-kind corridor system that facilitates partnerships with school districts throughout the Bay Area and brings together key stakeholders focusing on PK-12 public education.  Additionally, the department offers a Master’s degree (including an on-line option) and the Doctorate in Educational Leadership for Social Justice (ELSJ). The recently established Center for Research, Equity, and Collaborative Engagement (CRECE) reflects DEL’s commitment to advance public education through robust research involving pre-K-12 educators, university faculty, policy makers, and community members. 

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: Teach a sequence of research and evaluation courses to a cohort of students in the doctoral program. Courses in the doctoral program include Qualitative and Quantitative Methods, Applied Study of Educational Issues, Applied Research Methods, Evaluation and Assessment, and Dissertation Seminar. Facilitate the development of students’ dissertation proposals. Lead students through the development of the Qualifying II paper and work in conjunction with the program Academic Coordinator to ensure alignment to the Qualifying I examination. Advise and supervise dissertations. May also teach in Tier I Administrative Credential Program and Masters’ Degree Program in Educational Leadership. Teaching assignments at CSU, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord and Online campuses. In addition to teaching, all faculty have advising responsibilities, assist the department with administrative and/or committee work, and are expected to assume college and campus-wide committee responsibilities. 

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant or Associate Professor with option of tenure to be commensurate with role and experience.  Salary dependent upon educational preparation and experience; subject to budgetary authorization.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT:  Fall Quarter, 2015. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in educational leadership, or a field directly related to school organization, educational research, policy and leadership. Additionally, candidate must demonstrate a record of scholarly activity in the areas of assessment and evaluation, and/or related research methodological approaches. Documented research agendas should include one or more of the following areas:  participatory action research, critical social science methodologies, ethnographic, narrative inquiry, quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods.  Transdisciplinary approaches are welcome.  Demonstrated experience and engagement in inquiry and research on issues of social justice and equity. Some experience in doctoral level teaching and service on dissertation committees required.  Demonstrated ability to teach, advise and mentor students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds or community service that has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence is required.  Knowledge of instructional strategies to engage adults in constructivist learning and a willingness to guide and develop the next level of educational scholar-practitioners is required. Significant knowledge of successful school reform, and recent urban public school district-level experience preferred; experience in project and program leadership and/or district/school leadership desired. The candidate has demonstrated experiences in working collaboratively and engaging in collaborative decision making with department colleagues. The University of Arizona, College of Education has established an innovative approach to undergraduate and graduate programs in early childhood education with a focus on Communities as Resources in Early Childhood Teacher Education—CREATE (www.createarizona.org)--and is currently searching for an Early Childhood Education specialist for appointment to a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level effective August 2015.

This position offers an opportunity to join the internationally recognized department of Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies (TLS) comprised of two outstanding graduate programs: Language Reading and Culture (LRC) and Teaching and Teacher Education (TTE), and undergraduate programs in early childhood education, elementary education, and literacy, learning & leadership. TLS faculty engage in interdisciplinary research and teaching as well as a departmental commitment to social justice. TLS provides a collaborative work environment for faculty research and grant development and encourages cross-program and cross-departmental research initiatives. The successful candidate will be joining a highly regarded group of faculty as well as a vibrant early childhood community in Southern Arizona—a dynamic transnational border region, in proximity to the 21 Tribal Nations of Arizona. The Department of Leadership Studies (DLS) in the USF School of Education invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position, with the position commencing Fall 2015. DLS is dedicated to preparing transformative education leaders across K-20 who are committed to issues of equity and social justice in education and its community context. We seek candidates with expertise in the area of educational policy and law. The position would focus on policy and law development and implementation across the K-20 pipeline, with attention to the socio-cultural and historical context of how policies are developed and implemented, as well as the role of the community in shaping policy. The position would also focus on how law and policy intersect with issues of diversity and equity (e.g., language access,LGBTQ identities, disabilities, discipline, immigration status) as well as how they then impact different communities. 

Job Responsibilities: 
Responsibilities include teaching courses in educational policy and law as well as other courses in the various credential and graduate programs; conducting research and publishing scholarly work on education; supervising students on capstone projects, doctoral dissertations, and/or field placements; assisting with student recruitment, advising, and assessments; and contributing to program development and coordination, School of Education and university initiatives and mission, and partnerships with schools and communities. 

Minimum Qualifications: 
Qualifications include an earned doctorate in Educational Leadership, Educational Policy, or related field (candidates nearing the end of their doctorates may be considered); demonstrated record of scholarly achievement on educational policy and law, the politics of education, and the impact on communities; theoretical and practical expertise related to critical policy analysis, socio-political contexts of education, school-community relations, urban education, and studies in diversity and equity; experience with grassroots community organizations, community-based initiatives, and/or community-based schools; excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; excellent higher education teaching experience or potential; experience working with diverse student populations; and a demonstrated commitment to educational equity and social justice. Duties:
Teach graduate courses in educational leadership across Ed.D, Ph.D, and M.Ed. programs on multiple campuses. Recruit and advise students, and supervise doctoral research in our Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs. Engage in research and scholarship which informs P-12 educational practice and innovation. Participate in graduate program development and assessment.

Required Qualifications: 
An earned doctorate in Educational Leadership or a related field, by time of appointment. Experience with teaching and/or leading in P-20 organizations; excellent teaching and advising skills. Evidence of established (for associate rank) or emerging (for assistant rank) scholarly agenda. Knowledge and/or experience in culturally-based leadership and/or multicultural approaches to educational leadership. Experience providing leadership in developing school-community partnerships that promote educational equity. 

Desired Qualifications: 
Leadership or teaching experience in a P-12 context; knowledge of critical approaches to educational leadership and organizational change. Experience with online or hybrid teaching, use digital media and technology tools to enhance the quality of P-20 education. Experience with mixed-methods research, and in securing external funding to support research and programming. Experience with international teaching, program development, or partnership work also desired.

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in Educational Administration or a related field by the time of appointment. Potential for excellence in teaching, scholarly research, publications and grant writing for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank. For appointment at the Associate rank, candidates can demonstrate past success and have a high level of competence and sufficient experience to teach and advise graduate students at the masters and doctoral levels as well as to conduct research in PreK-12 leadership. Interest in and ability to seek and secure external funding. The successful candidate will have demonstrated an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of multicultural populations and an ability to work successfully with diverse students and community populations.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a school leader and/or teacher in PreK-12 school
settings. Research interests and publications that include social justice issues. Experience in developing and teaching graduate level courses in the following: school and/or district leadership, PreK-20 school and university collaboration, school finance and/or law, urban school and or district leadership, or charter/private school leadership.


Responsibilities: Teach and develop courses in educational leadership and administration; contribute to knowledge creation in the field of Educational Leadership through scholarship, publications, and grant writing. Field supervision in educational settings. Chair and/or serve on masters’ projects and doctoral dissertations. Work collaboratively with members of the educational community, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. Serve on department and university committees, and contribute to program and curriculum development. Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting Date: August 18, 2015

DEPARTMENT OF LEADERSHIP, FOUNDATIONS, AND HUMAN RESOURCE EDUCATION

The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) seeks an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator in P-12 Educational Policy, Leadership and Administration. Successful applicants should have teaching and research interests in one or more of the following areas: educational leadership, education policy, program evaluation, qualitative methodologies, and/or mixed methods research designs.
The Department of Leadership, Foundations and Human Resource Education (ELFH) includes 22 FTE faculty members and offers a variety of programs that lead to Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral (Ph.D., Ed.D) degrees in the areas of educational administration, organizational leadership and learning, higher education, and evaluation.

Duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities include: teaching graduate courses online and off-campus; coordinating recruitment efforts and admission processes; supervising students in field experiences; advising and mentoring graduate students; providing leadership for Ed.S., and Ed.D., and certification programs; and developing a prominent Ph.D. program focused on educational leadership and urban policy.

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated excellence in scholarly research at the national or international level
  • Demonstrated success or the potential for success in seeking external grants and contracts
  • Demonstrated success publishing in referred journals
  • Demonstrated commitment to issues of social justice, diversity, and students from multicultural communities and backgrounds
  • Doctoral degree in P-12 educational policy, leadership and administration or a closely related field
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Demonstrated success in advising educational leaders and policymakers on issues related to production, implementation, and subsequent consequences of local, state, and federal education policies
  • Documented research interest in issues of diversity - racial/ethnic, linguistic, gender, and socioeconomic - as they appear in the urban P-12 context
  • Knowledge of ELCC/CAEP accreditation standards for school and district level leadership
  • Administrative experience in P-12 leadership and leadership preparation programs 
Appointment: 10-month appointment, competitive salary plus $5K stipend per year for program coordinator role
Beginning date: January 1, 2015
