Dear Educator, Organizer/Activist, Student, Youth, Parent, or Community Member,

Registration is now open for the Fifth Annual Boston-area Educators for Social JusticeConference on May 30th! The Conference is produced by Teacher Activist Group (TAG) Boston and will be held at the Curley School in Jamaica Plain. Over the next few weeks, we will be updating our website with details about the conference schedule and keynote speakers, but we promise you that we’ve got some fantastic workshops and panels planned.
Conference Aims:
●      Facilitate dialogue, share resources and build strategy among those interested in education for liberation
●      Develop youth leadership and support youth voice in education
●      Build a movement for quality education that combines the visions of youth, communities, families and teachers

CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS!
Currently we are seeking workshop proposals from individuals or groups interested in leading a workshop at the conference.  We invite everyone -- students, teachers and community organizers/activists -- to apply. This year we are excited to be creating a new affinity-groups space for people to connect and check in with folks who are doing similar work and considering similar questions. This builds on our open sessions from previous years. More to come on our website in upcoming weeks.

Assistant Professor - Early Childhood Special Education in New York New York United States

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The School of Education of Hunter College-CUNY invites applications for a tenure track position in Early Childhood Special Education effective September 1, 2015. Appointment to this position is anticipated at the assistant professor rank. The college places a high priority on research and teaching excellence with an expectation that the candidate will also be active in their professional field.

Applicants will be expected to: conduct research and publish scholarly writing in special education; teach graduate courses; supervise students in field placements; develop and maintain relationships with early childhood special education programs in schools and institutions; advise graduate students; serve on department, school of education, college, and university committees; develop training and/or research grant proposals; and demonstrate leadership in the field.

QUALIFICATIONS
A Ph.D or Ed.D is required. Extensive knowledge of theory and practice in early childhood special education; experience teaching within the certification range of birth through grade 2; strong evidence of promising research and scholarly activity; university teaching and supervisory experience; competence in technology as an educational tool. Candidates must have a commitment to work in multicultural and urban education settings.

The Department of Special Education, Language and Literacy is recognized in the State of New Jersey for its distinguished record in mentoring exceptional teachers. The Department is comprised of a vibrant faculty with diverse interests and programs in Special Education, Deaf Education, TESL, and Reading. Its offerings in Special Education include a 5-year B.A./M.A.T. program, 4 masters-level programs, 2 post-masters programs, and 1 post baccalaureate certification program. Consistent with the state of New Jersey's requirement for certification, all special education programs are non-categorical.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in special education, disability studies, or related field (A.B.D. will be considered), appropriate teaching experience in P-12 schools and higher education, a well-developed program of research, an emerging/promising record of scholarship, knowledge in use of technology to enhance instruction, and demonstrated skills in working collaboratively with colleagues in various disciplines. Strongly preferred expertise in two or more of the following areas including: inclusive education practices, collaborative relationships with families and school personnel, positive behavior supports, assistive technology, literacy education, transition, and psychology and development of children and adolescents. Additional expertise in one or more of the following areas is desired: early childhood/special education, urban education, and prior experience supervising field experiences and working with schools.

Teach early childhood education and child development courses; develop a scholarly program of research including undergraduate and graduate students; advise undergraduate and graduate students; provide leadership at the local, regional and national levels; demonstrate ability to work collaboratively as well as independently; and participate in service activities at the unit, school, College, and university levels.

Required: An earned doctorate in human development, developmental psychology, or related area with expertise in child development; two or more years of professional experience in an inclusive preschool classroom, early intervention program, or other early childhood setting serving all children, including children with special needs; potential for scholarly research, external funding, quality teaching, and service.

Preferred: Demonstrated successful experience teaching at the university level, providing professional development, and mentoring for ECE students, graduate and undergraduates, and/or professionals; expertise in early childhood special education; and demonstrated record of research activity, publications, and funding.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The School of Family Studies and Human Services consists of six units each with lead coordinators: Communication Sciences and Disorders, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, Life-Span Human Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Personal Financial Planning as well as Specialists in K-State Research and Extension. Additional certificate programs are offered in Conflict Resolution, Youth Development, and Personal Financial Planning, a minor in Conflict Analysis and Trauma Studies, as well as programs offered through Great Plains- Interactive Distance Education Alliance (GP-IDEA) including Youth Development, Family and Community Services, Personal Financial Planning, and Financial Therapy. Faculty are extensively involved in distance education at the bachelor, master’s, and doctoral levels and certificate programs. The School operates an early childhood laboratory school, a speech and hearing clinic, a marriage and family therapy clinic, and a personal financial planning and financial therapy clinic. The School's facilities span four buildings and two campuses.

There are currently 62 faculty members in the School, nearly 800 undergraduates and 271 graduate students. The work of the School is conducted by over 190 faculty, staff, and student assistants. The School has established four priority areas for research and programming: 1) Health and Security of Military Families; 2) Personal and Family Risk Behaviors; 3) Disorders of Communication and Swallowing; 4) Families, Illness, and Health.

Kansas State University is a public land grant institution with over 24,290 students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries with highly diverse student body. It is centered on a 664-acre campus in Manhattan located 125 miles west of Kansas City in the rolling Flint Hills of Northeast Kansas. The strong local economy is bolstered by K-State and its proximity to Fort Riley. The city is large enough (54,600 permanent) to have big city amenities but small enough to maintain a strong sense of community.
