Duties:  Teach early childhood education courses, such as content methods courses (e.g,, math, social studies, science), introduction of early childhood education, and classroom guidance. Collaborate with faculty in developing and revising programs. Facilitate course-related field experiences. Advise undergraduate students. Required Qualifications:  (a) Earned master’s degree with emphasis in early childhood or elementary education, to be completed by the time of appointment. (b) A minimum of 5 years of effective teaching in self-contained grades K-3 classrooms. (c) Experience in teaching diverse student populations (e.g., racial minority students, English language learners, students with special needs, urban and poor/working-class students).

Desired Qualifications:  (a) Earned doctorate with emphasis in early childhood or elementary education, to be completed by the time of appointment. (b) Experience in developing and teaching conceptually rich integrated curricula. (c) Experience in interpreting and implementing state mandated standards. (d) Integration of culturally relevant curricula and pedagogy for diverse student populations. (e) Ability to integrate school, family, and community in teaching and learning experiences. (f) Integration of technology in classroom practices. (g) Participation in related national and/or state professional organizations.

Associate/Full Professor of Early Childhood Development and Education

The Early Childhood Education Program at UB has a long history of research excellence, and strong commitment to teaching and community engagement. It has been a growing area of teacher education. Its Fisher-Price endowed Early Childhood Research Center (ECRC) (http://ecrc.buffalo.edu/) provides rich research potential and opportunities.
The successful candidate must have an active research program in early childhood development and education, and a strong track record of publishing and securing external research funding. Although the specific area of research is open (e.g., Literacy, STEM), we are particularly interested in candidates who are engaged in developmental research on one or more of the following topics:
  • the intersection between mind, brain, behavior, and learning
  • young children in urban settings, ethnic minority and/or immigrant families, or families
    affected by disabilities
  • social-emotional, behavioral, or cognitive development in early childhood
  • early learning environments, both in the home and in child care settings
  • early childhood education policy, intervention, or effectiveness research
  • school readiness and the transition to elementary school
    Preference will be given to candidates:

We welcome candidates from a range of methodological traditions, particularly those with a strong background in quantitative methods, and employing a range of methodologies including, but not limited to, observational, experimental, design-based research, and mixed-method approaches.

He or she will also be expected to teach in our teacher education program. Position Available: Assistant Professor in Curriculum and Instruction, with specialization in Early Childhood Education

           The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education seeks an individual with scholarly interests and expertise in early childhood education at the Assistant Professor level. We seek a scholar who can help us extend and expand our commitment to the education of young learners in preschool, school, and other settings. This position offers opportunities to contribute to the development of high-quality scholarship and programs in early childhood education. The candidate should have an interest in teacher preparation as well as graduate education focused on enhancing the research capabilities of students interested in the many dimensions of the education of young learners. This position includes opportunities to teach on-line. Primary responsibilities include engaging in research, writing, and other scholarly activities in early childhood education; contributing to the early childhood and pre-K – 4th grade teacher certification undergraduate program, advising undergraduate and graduate students seeking teacher certification in pre-K – 4th grade education; developing and teaching graduate courses in early childhood education; supervising masters and doctoral students’ programs and research, and supervising graduate assistants; pursuing individually and/or with others relevant externally funded research, curriculum development, teacher education and/or evaluation opportunities in language education; participating in faculty governance with Department, College, and University; and providing service, outreach, and leadership to the University, educational institutions, agencies, and professional organizations and learned societies.

Required qualifications include (commensurate with experience): earned doctorate in early childhood education or a related field, and a strong academic record; strong record of, or potential for, research and scholarly publications in advance research in early childhood education; relevant teaching experience in early childhood settings; evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising; evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse backgrounds; and experience with funded projects or record of external funding commensurate with experience.

Desirable qualifications include: ability to teach interdisciplinary courses cutting across the arts, humanities and social sciences; ability to teach or oversee family-school-community course for future teachers; experience working with practicing teachers, partnerships between families, schools, communities and universities including professional development schools; experience in applications of technology in teaching and learning; and interests in early childhood inclusion, diverse language learners, or assessment and evaluation in Early Childhood Education.

ROLE of the POSITION
Seeking a tenure-track associate or full professor with expertise in inclusive Early Childhood Education (ECE) and/or Early Childhood Special Education. This unique position provides a collaborative opportunity for research, innovation, and creativity across vibrant programs in ECE/ECSE and a nationally recognized NAEYC-accredited inclusive Early Childhood Education Center. The successful candidate will teach and advise students in undergraduate and graduate degree teacher preparation programs leading to an endorsement to teach ECE and/or ECSE. Opportunities also exist to teach, mentor and advise students in an inclusive, developing, and dynamic doctoral program. Successful candidates will be required to maintain an active program of research, grant writing, teaching (including advising, recruiting, mentoring students, developing and teaching courses), and service.

Required Qualifications Include: An earned doctorate in Early Childhood Education/Early Childhood Special Education, or related field; experience facilitating access to the general education curriculum for young students with and without disabilities, strong publication record commensurate with senior level rank, and successful record of grant experience as PI with experience managing grant budgets. Preferred Qualifications Include: evidence of experience collaborating with educators in the field of Early Childhood, Early Childhood Special Education and Early Intervention; knowledge of evidence-based practices to address academic and linguistic needs of young children identified as English language learners in Early Childhood Education settings; experience (e.g., early intervention, community-based child care, PreK-2) in the areas ECE/ECSE/EI pedagogy; higher education curricular expertise and (a) research methods for early childhood, (b) assessment of diverse learners. Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses in leadership, organizational change, policy studies, and other courses offered within the department in both the 6th year professional diploma and doctoral programs.  Candidates will be required to participate in activities that advance the department’s mission and engage in productive research and creative activity.  The nominal teaching load is 12 credits per semester.
