Academic Specialist, Educational Leadership
and Executive Director, Indiana Urban Schools Association


This full time, 12 month position serves as the half-time executive director of the Indiana Urban Schools Association (IUSA) and as a half-time Academic Specialist faculty member in the School of Education at Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). The position is located in the School of Education, IUPUI.
Qualifications:
  •   Doctorate in Educational Leadership or related area
  •   Professional experience as a school and/or district leader in K-12 urban education settings
  •   University teaching experience (preferred)
    Duties for the School of Education:
  •   Teach three courses (9 credits) per year in the area of Educational Leadership
  •   Recruit and advise students in the educational leadership programs at IUPUI
  •   Provide placement assistance to graduates of these programs
  •   Work collaboratively with K-12 schools and community/state partners
  •   Perform faculty and professional service at the university, local, and state levels Duties for IUSA:
  •   Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Board of Directors
  •   Act as the chief executive officer of the Association with responsibility for and power to carry
    out all such duties and transact all such business as shall be determined by the Board of
    Directors, the bylaws, and as necessary, to transact the business of this Association.
  •   Serve as director of research for the Association with responsibility for sharing leading edge
    data and research findings and connecting IUSA and Indiana University faculty regarding
    relevant research studies related to urban schools and leadership.
  •   Coordinate relationships with, and promote cooperation with member school organizations, with
    universities, and with other agencies as determined by the Board of Directors.
  •   In consultation with the IUSA president, prepare for monthly meetings of the Board of Directors
    during the school year by drafting meeting agendas, organizing supportive documentation, and arranging details of time, location, guest speakers, and accommodations.

Specific duties related to the collaborative agreement:
The executive director has the overall responsibility for working with the parties to focus on the vision and purpose specified in the Affiliation Agreement, but will not engage in any lobbying activities. Fulfilling this responsibility may include any or all of the following:
  •   Bring to the attention of the parties opportunities for collaboration and “collective impact” initiatives across districts to address priority issues.
  •   Organize periodic Urban School Leaders Institutes.
  •   Prepare policy briefs to inform various constituents about issues impacting urban school
    districts.
  •   Involve other K-16 stakeholders to this collaborative effort.
