About UTEP and El Paso:
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is an emerging national research university well on its way toward becoming the first national research university in the U.S. with a 21st-century student demographic. At the heart of the U.S.-Mexico border region and a leader among Hispanic-serving institutions, UTEP is committed to the ideals of access and excellence and enrolls over 23,000 students – about 80 percent of them Hispanic. It is the only doctoral research university in the nation with a majority Mexican-American student body. UTEP is designated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as “Community Engaged” and by the U.S. Department of Education as “Hispanic-Serving.” UTEP faculty have been nationally recognized for their commitment to student success, teaching, research, scholarship, and artistic expression.

UTEP comprises seven colleges and a graduate school and offers 71 bachelor’s, 76 master’s, and 20 doctoral degrees, with more in development. UTEP has been designated as one of the state’s top emerging research universities. Washington Monthly recently ranked UTEP first in the nation in the social mobility category for the third consecutive year, as well as 8th overall. UTEP’s more than $83 million in annual research spending ranks the university among the top 200 universities in the nation and fourth in federal research expenditure among all public universities in Texas. UTEP is completing a campus transformation, which includes more than $300 million in recent building expansions, renovations, infrastructure improvements, and pedestrian enhancements.

The College of Education currently enrolls 1,963 students at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. The new Dean of the College has a vision to expand doctoral programs, enhance research productivity, increase funded projects, and develop budgetary proposals, policies, and strategies to build and improve the infrastructure and services provided to College faculty and students.

El Paso County is a highly livable, bi-cultural community of 800,000 people, which offers affordable homes and attractive neighborhoods. El Paso is the safest large city in the United States.
