The Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) announces a search for a faculty member specializing in policy analysis/policy evaluation to begin in Fall 2015. The Department offers an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Administration, a master’s degree in Educational Administration, and principal and superintendent certifications. ABOUT UTEP: Celebrating its centennial year in 2014, The University of Texas at El Paso is the second oldest academic institution in The University of Texas System. UTEP was founded in 1914 as the Texas State School of Mines and Metallurgy. In 1949, the school’s name changed to Texas Western College. In 1967, Texas Western College became The University of Texas at El Paso.

UTEP is the only national research university with a Mexican-American majority student body and is third among all U.S. colleges and universities in awarding bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics. The College of Education (COE) has three departments, with 64 faculty serving over 2000 undergraduate students from the College of Education, the College of Liberal Arts, and the College of Science. The COE currently offers online teacher certification programs, including our Alternative Teacher Certification Program to certify those whose degrees are in areas other than education, to over 275 individuals throughout Texas. Over 39% of UTEP’s 3600 graduate students, including approximately 100 doctoral students, are enrolled in the College of Education. These students are engaged in research relevant to the U.S.-Mexico border that examines the impact of culture and language on school achievement along with other topics of interest to the Paso del Norte region and beyond. The doctoral program in Educational Leadership and Policy Development will celebrate its 20th year of service to the region, the nation, and the borderland of the United States and Mexico in the 2015-16 academic year. Graduates of our program have gone on to secure significant leadership roles in pre-K and higher education institutions across the state of Texas and throughout the United States. This position dedicated to the development, implementation, and evaluation of policy analysis will add to the quality of a strong and creative research and development activity in a critical geographic region shared by two nations.
The Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations is an active member of the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA).


REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have a doctorate in Educational Policy, Educational Leadership, or a closely-related field from a nationally accredited institution and be able to demonstrate skills in policy analysis and evaluation in the PreK-20 trajectory. The ideal candidate must also show evidence of effective teaching, advising, and mentoring at the graduate level, possess a strong record of publications, have experience supervising doctoral students and demonstrate potential for externally funded projects.

Desired qualifications include strong knowledge of research methods and statistical analyses, evidence of a record of administrative experience in K-12 or in higher education, record of contributing to program development and coordination and an established history of externally- funded research.

SALARY: Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience.
