Department of Educational Administration and Higher Education Assistant/Associate Professor

(PreK-12 School Administration)
To begin August 16, 2015

Description of Position
Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure-track) in the Department of Educational Administration and Higher Education. Primary responsibilities include graduate teaching in the areas of general educational administration, principalship, superintendency, and instructional leadership, supervising educational administration interns, research, grant activity, and service to the field and profession.

Responsibilities of the Position
1. Teach courses on the graduate level in educational administration at various locations.
2. Advise graduate students relative to their academic programs and state endorsement requirements.
3. Share supervision of interns pursuing educational administration endorsements.
4. Participate in the coordination of the academic programs in educational
administration including the doctoral program.
5. Serve on and chair master’s and doctoral committees.
6. Initiate and implement research and scholarly publication in educational
administration.
7. Assist with the recruitment of candidates to the educational administration
graduate programs.
8. Develop grant proposals and administer grant programs awarded.
9. Establish and maintain ties with practicing PreK-12 school administrators in the
region and state.
10. Serve the constituencies of the Department, College, and University as
approved/assigned.

Required Qualifications for Assistant Professor
1. Appointment requires a completed doctorate with a specialization in educational administration by date of hire. Applicants who have completed all requirements for the doctorate, except the dissertation, but expect to complete the dissertation by August 15, 2015, will receive consideration at the Assistant Professor level only. If the appointee does not provide official evidence of completion of the earned doctorate by August 16, 2015, the appointment will be on a term basis at the rank of Instructor and at a salary lower than that of an Assistant Professor.
2. A dissertation in educational administration.
3. Be eligible for principal and superintendent endorsements in the state of Illinois.
4. Successful experience as a PreK-12 school administrator.
5. Knowledge and experience in school finance, school business management, school
improvement and academic achievement, personnel evaluation, school law, and
building and district-level school leadership.
6. Oral proficiency in the English language as required by Illinois State law.
7. Ability to interact and collaborate with diverse colleagues and students.
Required Qualifications for Associate Professor
1. All of the requirements for the Assistant Professor level, plus
2. A record of research/scholarly productivity commensurate with academic
appointment at this level.
3. Involvement in and connections to professional associations for educational
administrators on the state and national levels.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience teaching graduate level courses.
2. Principal and superintendent endorsements in the state of Illinois.
3. Successful experience as a building and district-level administrator in a public
school district in Illinois.
4. Background or experience in survey research methods.
Appointment

This is a continuing, tenure-track appointment. Highly qualified finalists who are tenured associate professors with more than 4 years in rank may be considered for appointment with tenure, pending Department, College, and University approval of tenure. Appointment is for a nine-month academic year. Contingent on available funding and demand for teaching assignments, an additional summer session appointment may be possible. Progress in rank will require demonstrations of productivity in research and publication, teaching, and service.
