Early Childhood/Elementary Education Clinical Assistant Professor

The Department of Educational Theory & Practice at the University of Georgia invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor in Early Childhood/Elementary Education to begin in August 2015. Clinical faculty members are full-time faculty members who have a strong academic background, extensive professional experience, a commitment to integrating theory and practice in teacher education programs, and engagement in the scholarship of teaching.

The Department of Educational Theory & Practice seeks to promote social, economic, and educational equity and to advocate for children and teachers through teaching, research, and outreach. UGA’s Early Childhood Education program has been ranked among the nation’s top 10 elementary education programs by U.S. News and World Report for more than a decade. The department’s outreach and research commitments include a multi-faceted collaboration with the local school district using the Professional Development School model and local community-based informal education projects, as well as projects that extend across the State of Georgia, the United States, and in international contexts.


Required Qualifications
  • Applicants for the position must have an earned doctorate in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or a related field by the time of employment.

  • In addition, successful candidates will have had experience in a variety of types of
    educational settings and experience with diverse student populations.
  • Applicants must have experience working with pre and/or in-service teachers and
    fluency with research literatures in teacher education.
  • Applicants for the position should show potential for making significant
    contributions to program improvement and innovation at the department level and within the Professional Development School District.
    Responsibilities
    The successful applicant will 5 years of in-field teaching experience as a fully certified teacher in a public school setting
  • teach undergraduate and graduate courses and conduct field supervision of students.
  • provide service to the program, department and/or local schools.
  • be expected to work across departmental and institutional boundaries and
    participate in sustained engagement with local public schools.
  • be expected to engage in the scholarship of teaching or the scholarship of
    engagement.
