Assistant or Associate Professor of Child and Family Studies

Position:
The Department of Child and Family Studies (CFS) at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The position will begin in August, 2015. Preference will be given to candidates whose research centers on young children (birth – age 5) in their families and communities. The department supports an ecological and interdisciplinary perspective on children and families and seeks a candidate whose on-going research and teaching will strengthen the CFS department’s mission of development in context and children and families at risk. Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of multiple methods of scholarship in the area of child well-being and/or development as well as substantive expertise in one or more related areas. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue an active research agenda, including seeking funding from competitive federal and private agencies, in addition to participating in the Department's undergraduate and graduate advising and teaching programs. The candidate will also be expected to collegially engage in service activities in support of the department, college, university, and/or local/global communities. Evidence of effective university-level teaching, experience working in an interdisciplinary environment, and knowledge of neuroscience as relevant to development and learning are desirable. Candidates must have an earned doctorate degree by time of appointment in Child Development, Human Development, Human Development and Family Studies, or a closely related field. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their ability to perform at the rank being considered. Programs:
The Department of Child and Family Studies (CFS) is an interdisciplinary department in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. The CFS department’s main area of focus is development in context, particularly with children and families at risk. The CFS department currently consists of 25 faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff who supervise and teach approximately 220 undergraduate CFS majors and 44 CFS graduate students. The CFS department is home to the Early Learning Center for Research and Practice (ELC), which is a state of the art inclusive laboratory school.
